Christmas: A Time of Celebration
The Christmas Season is one of celebrating the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. He has come to set us free. He is the Deliverer, our Redeemer. God born into this world as a baby to die for us, to reveal God to us, and to prepare us for His reign as King forever. I want to encourage us to celebrate not only His birth, but also the revelation truth that He is Coming Again. His ADVENT will one day happen in the twinkling of an eye. All will see Him come in His glory. Every knee will bow and every tongue confess Jesus is Lord.
Paul wrote of Jesus’ Second Coming as a comfort to believers who were being persecuted. They were to take great comfort in the knowledge that Jesus would return to establish His kingdom of righteousness and justice. John wrote to inform us He would come to revenge His martyrs, vanquish everyone who rejected His love and truth, and we would join Him in His rule as kings and priests.
Jesus told of His return to assure us that even though He would be crucified and then rise from the dead to ascend to heaven, He would never leave us nor forsake us. He would fulfill the OT promises of His reign without end. All the nations of the earth would come to Jerusalem to worship Him. He would end the rule of Satan and his evil. God’s justice would prevail. Sin and Death would be no more.
He also warned about not being ready or prepared for His return. He said most people would be so consumed with this life that they would miss His marriage feast. We should live with His coming in mind. It should be a dominant theme and motivation in how we live our lives. We should not fear or worry, but serve Him. Yes, we should live our lives. Work, get married, prosper in the spirit and in all things, but always with the emphasis on preparing the way for His return.
So, we need not do foolish things like sell all we have and go wait on a mountain for Him to come get us. We need to live each day for Him and do what pleases God. Let the Spirit produce much fruit in our lives. Enjoy the gifts of God. Live with the assurance we are in His Hands, secure, and blessed. We are a chosen priesthood, a royal nation, His own special treasure. Therefore, celebrate and be faithful and obedient in our service to the Master. That is why Christmas is so wonderful. We sing and rejoice, and give glory to God in the highest.
