The Beginning of a New Christmas Season
Last night Beverly and I went to the Christmas Procession at EPCOT. Tears moistened my eyes as I lived the birth of Jesus. Listening to the music, singing and narration of Jesus coming into the world, I was deeply moved because everything was about Jesus. I was reminded of God’s unsurpassed love for the human race and me. I found myself asking the age old question, “Why did Jesus come?”
We could answer several truths and they would be right, but the main reason He had to be born was to deal with our sin. If Adam and us had never sinned, Jesus would never have had to come. Only God could devise such a plan that in order to conquer sin, He would would be born a baby and grow to be a Man to die for our sin, to satisfy the wages of our sin for us, to do what we could not do for ourselves, so we could live life abundantly in love with God and one another.
As we enter this Christmas season, let us be reminded it is all about Jesus first and foremost. Let us gather to worship this Child Who became King and set us free from sin to a new life in the Spirit. In Jesus there is hope. There is victory over our sin . We are no longer captive to our sin. Even when we do sin, we have an Advocate with the Father that wins our case for forgiveness every time!
Ashley Judd, the narrator, gave a beautiful testimony to her faith in Jesus Christ and her hope for peace on earth. She read the story of Jesus’ birth with powerful emotion and passion. She reminded me life was not about religion, but about Jesus. I thought, what did people do when Jesus walked the earth? They came to Jesus for forgiveness, for healing, for deliverance from demons, for answers to their search for truth, to pour out their hearts concerning their troubles, to find hope and meaning and purpose for living…
Has anything changed? Should we not continue to come to Jesus for all of the above and more? Jesus is still here for us, to comfort us, to heal us, to care for us in our woundedness, to never leave us or forsake us in our failures, to deliver us from our own personal demons, to walk with us through the dark valleys, to let us know we are forgiven, we are loved, we are not alone, we have a family, and an eternal destiny…In Him there is hope and abundant life. No wonder we celebrate the birth of the greatest Person ever to be born.
Inspiration is a marvelous experience. It reminds us of the goodness in life that has been give to us by Jesus. It can chase the blues away, take you to greater heights of ecstasy, and put a spring in your step. It awakens you to new purpose and destiny. Hope rises and sin and death are defeated. Miracles are possible. Therefore, let us fall on our knees and worship Jesus everyday in thanksgiving and praise, in love and joy, as we follow Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
